About Walsh University

Walsh University is a four-year university located in North Canton, Ohio. The school is affiliated with the Catholic Church and has operated since 1960 when it was founded by the Brothers of Christian Instruction. The school operated as a college until 1993 when it gained university status. The university has a satellite campus in Castel Gandolfo, Italy. Its mascot is named Sir Walter the Cavalier.

The university can trace its roots to a school that was located in Maine in the 1950s. It would move to Canton, Ohio, in 1959 with a donation of $300,000 from a local bishop. After the school was moved, it was named after this benefactor, a man named Bishop Emmett Michael Walsh, who was a member of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, Ohio.
