Creativity Scholarship Recipient for Fall 2021

Kayla VanProoyen Named Creativity Scholarship Winner

Graphic Design Degree Hub is proud to announce that Kayla VanProoyen of Birnamwood, WI has been named the recipient of our Fall 2021 Creativity Scholarship. She was selected from 21 qualified and talented applicants. From her portfolio, it’s clear that Kayla is a very talented artist. She is passionate about her art and has a clear plan on how to find success in her chosen profession.

The $1,500 scholarship is designed to promote study in graphic design and related disciplines.

Kayla graduated early from Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School, Wittenberg, WI and is now a student at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), majoring in Illustration.

In her application essay, Kayla said: “As a kid, whenever I was asked the question, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ my answer was always ‘an artist.’ From then to now, I’ve been dedicated to my goal of pursuing art as my career.” She said that “Being an artist grants me the opportunity to express myself and put my ideas onto any form of medium. These aspects are what I love most about being an artist.”

After graduation Kayla hopes to work at MIAD as an admissions counselor. She said she plans to achieve this by being involved with MIAD activities and leadership. She hopes to also work as a Residential Assistant and will also pursue art-related jobs to expand her résumé and portfolio.

Eventually, Kayla said wants to go into the video game industry and concept art. “Majoring in illustration will prepare me to enter this career field because I can exercise and improve my illustrating skills,” she said.

During high school she demonstrated leadership skills as Teacher’s Assistant, Photography Assistant. She was Lead Artist for a homecoming chalk mural during her freshman through senior years at Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School. She also worked with the Wittenberg-Birnamwood art club as a sophomore, junior and senior.

Graphic Design Degree Hub is proud to award her Kayla the Fall 2021 Creativity Scholarship and we wish her the best in her future artistic pursuits.
