Capella University’s School of Business and Technology offers an Undergraduate Certificate in Software Development and a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology with specialization in Software Development.

The Undergraduate Certificate in Software Development enables students to gain industry-driven abilities. The coursework features instruction in database structure and access, coding and testing programs, designing software, Java programming, designing user interfaces, and defining requirements. The program required the completion of 24 quarter credits. The courses include: Introduction to Database Systems, Introduction to Programming with Java, User Experience and Interaction Design, Software Architecture, Intermediate Java Programming, Software Requirements, and Software Design and Modeling.

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology in Software Development program is offered completely online and it enables students to gain new information technology skills and computer program abilities. At Capella University, two online learning formats are available, FlexPath and GuidedPath. The FlexPath enables students to learn at their own pace with no set semester or quarter system. Students are able to complete courses based on their own schedules. They are also able to set their own deadlines. Students do not pay per course or credit, tuition is assessed by subscription. Students are able to complete as many courses as they want in 12 weeks for one tuition fee. The GuidedPath is more structured with weekly assessment deadlines. Students are able to communicate with others in their courses via message boards and faculty is available to help guide discussions.
