About Colorado Technical Institute

From a humble start in a converted roller skating rink in 1965, Colorado Technical Institute has grown an innovator in technical education. The school began with a desire to meet a growing need for employees with knowledge of technical subjects. As a result, the school as one of the first to offer online options and continues to lead in its offerings of courses that are available in an online, traditional or hybrid format.

Initially, the school was known as the Colorado Electronic Training Center, offering degrees in electrical engineering and other technical areas. The workforce was changing at the time and employers were in need of staff who had knowledge of technology. In the late 1980s, when the internet began to grow, the need for computer science professionals became critical. The name of the school changed to Colorado Technical University as the curriculum expanded beyond technology, although technology remained a strong focus at the school.

U.S. News & World Report ranks the online programs at the University as one of the best and the International Graduate Forum considers the online MBA a Top Tier in the World. U.S. News & World Report also ranks the online programs among the best for veterans. Military Times named the school one of the best as well. In 2018, Colorado Technical University became a WOW Award recipient. The WCET Outstanding Work (WOW) award was presented for the CTU Faculty Mobile App. This was the second WOW Award for the school. They received the first in 2016 for offering the first student-centered app. CEO Magazine named the MBA program as a Top Tier degree and the school received the Council of College and Military Educators Institution Award in 2017. This award recognized the quality education programs offered to military members and veterans. In 2016, the University was awarded the ELearning Award of Excellence.

Colorado Technical University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission North Central Association. The school undergoes periodic evaluation by the Commission to confirm they continue to offer programs that meet the criteria of the accrediting agency. Any areas that are identified as needing improvement during that evaluation are addressed by the school as soon as possible. Colorado Technical University Application Requirements

Applicants must meet with an admissions counselor either by phone or in person to discuss goals and confirm that the student plans to pursue a degree at the University. When the interview is complete, the counselor will help the student complete an application for admission. Undergraduate students must provide official high school transcripts while transfer and graduate students must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Graduate students must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

Colorado Technical University Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate tuition for Colorado Technical University is as follows:

  • Aurora Campus – $305 per credit hour
  • Colorado Springs Campus – $305 per credit hour
  • Online – $325 per credit hour

Graduate tuition is as follows:

  • Aurora and Colorado Springs Campus – Masters – $490 per credit hour
  • Aurora and Colorado Springs Campus – Doctors – $598 per credit hour
  • Online – Masters – $585 per credit hour
  • Online – Doctors – $598 per credit hour

Financial aid is available and all students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to qualify. They may be eligible for grants or scholarships which do not have to be repaid after graduation or for work-study programs which provide students with employment to offset the cost of tuition. Loans may also be offered but they must be repaid after graduation. Colorado Technical Institute accepts military and employer benefits as well. All students should complete the FAFSA regardless of income and it must be renewed on an annual basis.
